What Is Foot Drop?

Foot drop is weakness or paralysis of the muscles that normally lift the front of the foot, caused by peroneal nerve damage or compression. It's a symptom, not a diagnosis, and identifying the underlying cause determines the treatment approach.

Dr. Balkaran's Approach

As a fellowship-trained peripheral nerve surgeon with advanced microsurgical training, Dr. Balkaran evaluates foot drop comprehensively with nerve testing and imaging to determine whether the cause is a compressible nerve that can be surgically addressed, or a systemic condition requiring coordinated care. Regenerative nerve therapies support recovery in appropriate cases.
