Surgery as a Last Resort

Dr. Balkaran does not recommend surgery until conservative and regenerative options have been thoroughly exhausted. When surgery is genuinely indicated, it is performed with advanced fellowship training and a clear commitment to the least invasive approach appropriate for the condition.

Healing Optimization Before Surgery

Every surgical patient undergoes a healing optimization protocol before the procedure. This ensures the body is prepared to heal successfully and recover efficiently.

1
Laboratory Evaluation
Complete metabolic panel, vitamin D, calcium, and bone health assessment to identify deficiencies that impair healing.
2
Circulation & Vascular Testing
Arterial testing and circulation assessment to confirm adequate blood flow for wound healing and bone repair.
3
Diabetes & Metabolic Evaluation
Glycemic control and kidney function assessment, as uncontrolled diabetes significantly impairs wound healing and surgical outcomes.
4
Peptide & Regenerative Optimization
Peptide therapy, red light therapy, and collagen support integrated before surgery to prime tissue for repair and mitochondrial recovery.

Early Weight Bearing

Minimally invasive surgical techniques allow walking the same day in a surgical shoe. Return to regular shoes typically in 3 to 6 weeks. Early weight bearing reduces muscle atrophy, supports circulation, and accelerates overall recovery.

  • Hammertoe correction
  • Ankle fracture repair with minimally invasive fixation when appropriate
