What Is Metatarsalgia?

Metatarsalgia describes pain and inflammation around the metatarsal heads, the five bones just behind the toes. It's common in runners, dancers, and people who spend extended time on their feet. Causes include high-impact activity, structural foot abnormalities, and fat pad atrophy.

Treatment

Most metatarsalgia responds well to offloading, footwear modification, and custom orthotics. The Liposana® fat pad restoration procedure is particularly effective for patients whose natural forefoot cushioning has deteriorated, restoring padding without surgery.
