What Is a Morton's Neuroma?

A Morton's neuroma is a thickening of the tissue surrounding the nerve that runs between the metatarsal bones, most commonly between the third and fourth toes. The thickened tissue becomes compressed and irritated, causing significant pain. Despite the name, it is a benign nerve thickening, not a tumor.

Treatment

The majority of neuromas can be managed without surgery. We begin with metatarsal padding and orthotics, progress to corticosteroid injections if needed, and offer sclerosing alcohol injection series for persistent cases. Surgery is reserved for cases that have failed all non-operative management.
